"Ungrateful" West Ham slammed by Sam Allardyce as he lifts lid on his Hammers reign
http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/ungrateful-west-ham-slammed-sam-6246879

"'The West Ham Way' is obviously not winning every week, like I tried to do! I did everything they asked for and they wanted more" says ex-boss

Sam Allardyce has branded West Ham's owners "ungrateful".

He has also dismissed his former employers' chances of qualifying for Europe this season but admits his own lack of faith in the squad may have dashed his chances of getting a new Hammers contract.

Allardyce, 60, has lifted the lid on his summer exit after four seasons in charge at Upton Park, telling beIN Sports: "'The West Ham Way' is obviously not winning every week, like I tried to do!

"I did everything they asked for and they wanted more, and I found that extremely ungrateful in terms of what I'd done for them.

"They thought we could get into Europe [West Ham DID play in Europe this season but only after winning a place in the first qualifying round of the Europa League via the Fair Play Table] and thought they might be able to get to a cup final, and that wasn't in the format of the job description when I started.

"I don't take kindly to people who don't appreciate what you do for them.

"We both decided to part company in quite an amicable way in the end, but I certainly wasn't going to stay, in my mind, for a long, long time.

"If [West Ham co-owners] David Sullivan and David Gold have told [new manager] Slaven Bilic that they expect to get into Europe this year then I think it's way beyond the capabilities of the squad at this moment in time.

"I told them that. Perhaps that's one of the reasons why they didn't renew my contract in the end?

"West Ham was a case of building a broken football club back up again. [Getting West Ham promoted] was the biggest job I had done in one season.

"Ultimately, my biggest problem was finishing tenth in the first year [back in the Premier League] — I would have been much better off finishing fourth from bottom!"

Allardyce's West Ham reign has left him convinced the days of managers ruling a club from top to bottom are over.

He added: "A manager today is fast becoming something owners don't want. They [owners] are in charge of the football club and want to see it flourish and the days of the manager being the almighty, dominant power like they used to be are long, long gone and you must build a relationship and understand."

our form from automatic promotion contenders to back door play off qualifiers said it all. A dire 2nd half to the season with more resources that our Championship rivals. Should have been sacked after promotion.

The Dave's were too tight to do it. So 3 seasons of PL mediorcrity

Re: "Ungrateful" West Ham slammed by Sam Allardyce as he lifts lid on his Hammers reign
Sums it up really. And that is Sam's major problem. He can't manage expectation. He can't handle expectation. He doesn't like expectation. he tried to manage West Ham his way and didn't like being told we want to finish here or there or do this in the cup.

It's not his way. He just likes to plod along slowly and surely doing things his way in his own time without any pressure from the board or fans.

That was why he was successful at Bolton. Year after year he was the main man regardless of where they finished or what they did and how they did it. No pressure from the board and no pressure from the fans. Eventually it all came right for him there and he did very well. But, it was after a long, long time in the wilderness and in a very pressure free environment.

He was expecting the same thing at West Ham. But West Ham were and are a different beast to Bolton when he was there. We were at a cross roads when he came to us. He wanted to get his feet under the table and take his time. But that wasn't what the fans or board wanted.

He was given time to re-build and get us back up and he did that which was fantastic. But he wasn't allowed to simply do what he wanted in the time he wanted. He didn't like that and so it came to an end.

I, for one, am glad that my club isn't like Bolton and has that pressure to succeed. West Ham aren't a club prepared to say to any manager you do what you want when you want. You do what the club wants or fuck off.

What will be most cunty about him is he wasnt sacked. He was given contracts and they were honored. The only failures were his. Indeed the successes were his too.

Ask him how the 13th best paid manager in the world didn't get sacked for winning 3 in 21 games while closing to play to win matches?

>>> he also wrote off getting into Europe as unrealistic

Privately perhaps. Publicly he was all for it, and said that we'd have been fighting for a European place had Carroll stayed fit in the season that we were absolute toilet.

That's the trouble with trying to read anything into the words of a man who lies for a living.

Re: "Ungrateful" West Ham slammed by Sam Allardyce as he lifts lid on his Hammers reign
The bit about finishing 4th bottom is telling.

It's as if he's unhappy with having to deal with any expectations beyond 'plod along' and as long as you avoid relegation, then jobs a good 'un.

he also wrote off getting into Europe as unrealistic, but if any club is in the top 4 half way through a season, then it should be a totally realistic possibility that that club could get a Europa cup place.

he's probably got some genuine gripes with the club that could stand up, like some of the comments undermining his job in the media, but all this stuff just comes across as I'll thought out and bitter.

And another thing, what profession can you earn 10 million or whatever it is after 3 year's work, and then come out with crap like that, and basically slate your ex employers and the club that just paid you those millions. Only in football eh. Fucking madness. These players / managers just aren't living in the real world. Fucking pisses me off, they ain't got a clue. Fat ungrateful cunt.

I watched the whole interview. I never had a big problem with Allardyce, glad he went and we've moved on. But that interview is a disgrace, what was he thinking, he just comes across as a bitter old moaner. And as for Keys and Gray, what a pair of smarmy cunting hasbeens they are. Fuck you Allardyce, fuck off out of football, your stuck in the fucking dark ages. Sitting on a sofa on some tiny crap Tv station that no one's heard of, with those two dullards is about your level now.

Antly, you need some better material. The old 'Allardyce was great and Nolan should play' shtick is running a bit dry, and is about as funny as syphilis.

Ronald, he didn't show a fraction of the same bitterness towards Newcastle who treated him much worse. he hated us from the start and thought he was doing us a favour managing us. I hope, like curbishley, that no club touches him ever again

But it's how the media works these days.

Fatty says something controversial, people react, websites get hits, repeat.

And he has a book to promote.
